س: حزمة الموارد التعليمية دي بتتكون من إيه؟

ج: الموارد تشمل 350 بطاقة تعليمية وعشر كتب للتدريب على القراءة، مقسمين لخمس مستويات، مع دليل للاستخدام يشرح البرنامج للأهالي والمُدرسين.

س: هل في نسخة إلكترونية من الموارد؟

ج: أكيد! متوفرة على موقعنا www.kalamna.org ، وممكن تشتري كل مستوى لوحده أو المجموعة كلها (خمس مستويات) بسعر مخفض.

س: إيه هي كتب التدريب على القراءة المتدرجة؟ وإيه الفرق بينها وبين أي كتاب أطفال تاني؟

ج: كتب التدريب على القراءة المتدرجة هي استراتيجية تعليمية بنوفق بها بين الطفل مع الكتب اللي يقدر يقراها بنفسه. وكل ما مستوى الطفل يتحسن، بيقدر يقرا كتب أصعب. بالنسبة لموارد كلامنا، إحنا تركيزنا على دعم القراء الصغار ومساعدتهم علشان يعملوا النقلة من مجرد الكلام بالعربي للقراءة بالعربي. كل مستوى مع الكتب في مستوى مقابل له من البطاقات التعليمية، بحيث بعد ما يتعلم الطفل المستوى يقدر يتدرب على قراءة كتب بنفس الأصوات اللي اتعلمها في المستوى ده، وده كمان بيساعد في التدرج من العامية للفصحى.

س: إيه الفرق بين طريقة كلامنا في تدريس اللغة العربية وأي طريقة تقليدية تانية؟

ج: طرق التدريس التقليدية بتعتمد على تقديم الأبجدية بالترتيب، لكن في كلامنا بنقدم الأول الأصوات الأكثر شيوعا في العربي، والأصوات المشتركة بين الفصحى والعامية، وده بيمكن الطفل من إنه يتعلم يقرا عدد كبير من الأصوات والكلمات في وقت قصير. بالإضافة لذلك، اختارنا أصوات وكلمات تكاد تكون مشتركة بين لهجات العربية.

مثلا، في المستوى الأول، بنقدم صوت “و”، رغم إنه بيجي في آخر الأبجدية، لكنه صوت مهم ومتكرر في نصوص الأطفال، وفي المستوى الخامس بنقدم أصوات مثل “ض” وهي أقل شيوعا واستخداما. بعد كده بنستخدم الأصوات والكلمات دي في كتب التدريب على القراءة المتدرجة، بعد ما يكون الطفل اتعلمهم واكتسب ثقة في قدرته على قراءتهم.

س: هل موارد كلامنا مطابقة لمناهج التدريس الحكومية؟

ج: أثناء تطوير موارد كلامنا، كنا حريصين على اختيار أصوات وكلمات منتشرة ومشتركة بين العامية والفصحى، ومفردات من حياة الطفل اليومية، وده بيخلي موارد كلامنا سهلة الاستخدام مع أي منهج تقليدي بيدرسه الطفل، ومناسبة لأي متعلم للعربية بغض النظر عن لهجته.

س: طفلي هيتعلم إيه لما يستخدم موارد كلامنا التعليمية؟

ج: لما الطفل بيخلص الخمس مستويات من موارد كلامنا، بغض النظر عن اللهجة اللي بيتكلمها في البيت، هيكون اتعلم كل أصوات اللغة العربية وحروفها (مع التشكيل المختلف)، وهيكون اكتسب مهارة فك شفرة الكلمات وقراءة وفهم جُمل بسيطة.

س: ليه طورتوا الطريقة الجديدة دي في تعلم اللغة العربية وتدريسها؟

ج: موارد كلامنا التعليمية هي طريقة من طرق كتير بنستخدمها في مدارس كلامنا علشان تمكِّن الأسر الناطقة باللغة العربية من التواصل مع ثقافتها وتحتفي بتراثها ولغتها. لما بدأنا ندرِّس العربي في سنة 2015 في فصولنا، لقينا إن مفيش موارد تساعد المدرسين والأهالي علشان يخلوا ولادهم يقروا عربي مش بس يتكلموه في البيت. موارد كلامنا التعليمية بتساعد المدرسين على الانتقال بالأطفال من العامية المنطوقة للفصحى المكتوبة بطريقة سلسة.

س: هل تمت تجربة موارد كلامنا؟

ج: دكتورة سوسن خليل، أستاذة اللغة العربية بجامعة كامبريدج، هل اللي صممت وطورت منهج وموارد كلامنا لتدريس اللغة العربية، وكل التطوير ده مبني على البحث الأكاديمي في مجال تعلم اللغة وتدريسها.

بعد سنوات من استخدامنا لموارد كلامنا في فصولنا، حصلنا على منحة للآداب والإنسانيات من جامعة كامبريدج في 2020 واللي ساعدتنا نطور مواردنا علشان توصل لعدد أكبر من متعلمي اللغة العربية.

قبل طباعة موارد كلامنا، اختبرنا وقييمنا البطاقات التعليمية وكتب التدريب على القراءة المتدرجة مع أطفال في مختلف المستويات، ووظفنا كل التعليقات والملاحظات علشان نضمن إن الموارد مفهومة وسهلة الاستخدام.

س: إزاي استعمل موارد كلامنا مع طفلي؟

ج: جزء من رسالة كلامنا هو تمكين الأسر من التواصل باللغة العربية والاستمتاع بتعلمها، علشان كده زودنا دليل الاستخدام مع الموارد بحيث يقدر الأهل يستعملوها مع أطفالهم بكل سهولة. بنقدم كمان ورش عمل وتدريب للمدرسين والأهالي اللي عايزين يفهموا أكتر عن منهج الصوتيات وإزاي بنطبقه في اللغة العربية.

Q- What is included in the toolkit?

A- The full toolkit consists of 350 flashcards and 10 readers as well as a step-by-step user guide for parents and teachers.

Q- Can the toolkit be accessed online?

A- Yes, there is an e-version of the Kalamna Phonics™ Toolkit available at www.kalamna.org. There, it can be purchased as five individual bundles or all-in-one at a discounted price.

Q- What is a levelled reader and how is it different to any other book?

A- Levelled reading is a literacy strategy which pairs children with books that best match their reading abilities. As children’s reading skills improve, they can proceed to more complex books. In the case of the Kalamna Phonics™ toolkit, we are focused on supporting young learners through a smooth transition from being Arabic speakers to Arabic readers. The levels of the readers are matched with the sounds and letters which the learner is introduced to in the flashcards and which follow a more natural progression from spoken Arabic to Standard Arabic.

Q – In what ways is the Kalamna Phonics™ method different from the traditional method?

A- In contrast to traditional teaching methods which rely on the alphabet, the Kalamna Phonics™ method introduces young learners to the Arabic language by demonstrating the relationship between the sounds of the spoken language, and the letters of the written language. In addition, the sounds and words chosen were based on their commonality across dialects and familiarity for children.

For example, in Level 1, young learners are introduced to the letter و – despite its later position in the alphabet – and its sound in توت and in Level 5, they progress to less frequently used sounds such as ض and its use in ضفضع. The words are then used in context in the levelled readers.

Q- Is the Kalamna Phonics™ Toolkit compatible with governmental education systems?

A- In developing the Kalamna Phonics™ Toolkit, great care was taken to use sounds and words commonly used in both spoken and Standard Arabic. As such, the toolkit is ‘dialect-friendly’ making it work alongside any other resources the language learner may be exposed to.

Q- What will my child learn if I use the Kalamna Phonics™ Toolkit?

A- Upon completing all five levels, a young learner – regardless of the dialect spoken at home – will have learned all the sounds of the Arabic language, their corresponding letters (including their variations with diacritics and depending on their placement at the beginning, middle and end of a word) and have the confidence to decode and comprehend simple sentences.

Q- Why did you create this new method?

A- The Phonics™ Toolkit is one of many ways through which Kalamna works on empowering Arabic-speaking families to connect with and celebrate their identity and heritage through language. When we first started teaching Arabic language classes in 2015, we found that there were no resources to help teachers and parents transition learners from being Arabic speakers to Arabic readers. The Kalamna Phonics™ toolkit allows teachers to follow a more natural progression from spoken Arabic to Standard Arabic.

Q – Has this been tested to work?

A- Developed by Dr Saussan Khalil, professor of Arabic at Cambridge University, the Kalamna Phonics™ Toolkit is steeped in the latest academic research and sound pedagogy.

Having passed the test for being truly tried and tested, we received support from the Cambridge University Arts & Humanities Impact Fund which afforded us the resources we needed to develop it further to reach more young Arabic language learners.

Before they were published, the readers were assessed and evaluated in one-to-one reading sessions with children at different levels and adjustments were made to ensure both literacy and comprehension.

Q- How do I use the toolkit with my child?

A- As part of Kalamna’s work to empower families to engage with and enjoy the Arabic language, a detailed user guide is included with the toolkit. We also offer masterclasses for parents and teachers wishing to learn more about the phonics method and how it can be applied to Arabic.
