Confusing RTL and LTR scripts is just part of their language learning journey! We love how proud she is of her work because it tells us we did our job in being supportive teachers; allowing children to make mistakes not only frees them to enjoy the learning process, it gives us valuable insight into what we need to focus on in future lessons.

We’ve been using the Kalamna Phonics™ e-toolkit in our classes since 2020. Here, our Kalamna Newcastle Director uses it on an iPad to teach her students to read their first set of words.

At Kalamna, the first thing a child learns to read and write is their own name - that's even before they learn the alphabet! We love how it instantly pulls kids in to learning to read and write in Arabic 😊

This is Gameel the Camel, our class mascot at Kalamna Cambridge. Every week, he goes home with one of our students to help them work on their Arabic!

We like to think of our classes as a social space for a community of Arabic-speaking families. Making friends is part of what the students sign up for!

Confusing the تب and ث is quite common when children start to learn the alphabet. We like to remind them that ب (b) has one dot on the bottom; ت (t) has two on top and ث (th) has three!

It is said that when one teaches, two learn; we truly couldn’t have hoped for better teachers!

We love to read aloud with our students because it exposes a child to rich language, proper grammar and exciting new ideas; engages and encourages a child’s imagination; it stretches a child’s attention span and ability to focus; it models positive reading behaviour; it shows a child that books are worth attention and interest, and most importantly, it's FUN for everyone!!!
